Estate Planning and Probate
Estate planning is one of the most active areas in our firm. Our attorneys advise clients in all aspects of gift and estate tax planning, trust and trust administration, postmortem tax planning, and probate matters. Our handling of client estate planning needs includes consideration of the full range of the client's property, business interests, and personal objectives.
The economy of southwestern Oregon is based on timber and wood processing. Much of the firm's work is with companies and families whose business is related to the timber industry. Passage of business and family assets efficiently upon death, both in terms of tax planning and trust administration, are goals of many firm clients.
For many years our firm has helped clients to meet their business objectives. We assist clients in choosing the best form for their business to take, whether that is a sole proprietorship, partnership, limited liability partnership, limited liability company, or corporation.
Once the business is formed, the firm assists its clients in business transactions, business planning, and succession planning. Our lawyers have extensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of business law and business planning.
Our firm has substantial experience in many types of real estate law, including acquisitions, sales, leasing, foreclosures, and property division. Many of the firm's transactions are related to timber.
Our lawyers have the knowledge and expertise to assist property owners with the tax matters related to their real property, including tax deferred exchanges, and preservation of assets for heirs through estate planning.
In the event of disputes over title, boundaries, roads, or adverse possession, our firm represents its clients in aggressively pursuing appropriate remedies through litigation.
Our firm has the skill and expertise to handle a large range of litigation matters, including business and personal litigation. The lawyers are certified to practice before all state and federal courts, and have years of experience in representing clients in lawsuits involving business disputes, personal injury, will contests, real property matters, employment, professional malpractice, and foreclosures. If possible, our firm will seek alternative dispute resolution, such as mediation or arbitration, to resolve conflicts when appropriate.
